Operations software inspired by the people who use it every day

Cairn is a software platform designed to help recreation organizations manage the realities of day-to-day operations.

The idea grew out of observing how many facilities rely on outdated systems that don’t quite fit the way they actually work. Memberships, check-ins, programs, waivers, reporting, households, point-of-sale workflows, and staff management often live in disconnected tools that create unnecessary friction.

Cairn aims to bring those pieces together into one system built around the people doing the work.

The name comes from the trail markers hikers build to help others find their way forward—a fitting metaphor for software intended to support staff, simplify processes, and reduce operational headaches.

What I worked on

  • Product strategy and feature planning
  • User experience design
  • Data modeling
  • Membership and household management workflows
  • Check-in systems
  • Program registration tools
  • Point-of-sale experiences
  • Reporting dashboards
  • Role-based permissions and staff tools
  • Front-end architecture and component development

What I learned

Building Cairn has reinforced the value of listening closely to the people who actually use software. The best operational tools aren’t flashy—they’re reliable, understandable, and designed with empathy for the complexity of real-world work.
