Project
Dogeared
A community-focused book tracking platform designed to help readers organize their shelves, discover new books, and connect with others through a shared love of reading.
Building a better place to keep track of the books we love
Dogeared started from a simple frustration: I wanted a place to track my reading life that felt more personal, more community-oriented, and less driven by algorithms.
It’s part reading journal, part discovery tool, and part social space for people who genuinely enjoy books. Readers can organize their shelves, track their progress, leave reviews, follow what others are reading, and discover new titles through the activity of the community itself.
More than anything, I wanted Dogeared to feel welcoming. The goal wasn’t to optimize for engagement metrics or endless feeds—it was to create a thoughtful space where readers could share enthusiasm for books and build meaningful connections around them.
What I worked on
- Product design and planning
- Front-end development
- Database architecture
- Authentication and user profiles
- Reading progress and bookshelf management
- Review and commenting systems
- Responsive design and accessibility improvements
- Community features and onboarding experiences
What I learned
Dogeared has reminded me that the most interesting software isn’t always the most complex. Sometimes the challenge is designing systems that feel intuitive, encourage participation, and help people feel a little more connected to the things they care about.
